Tribute to my mentors 25 years ago

Almost 25 years ago, I finished my PhD. I wanted to search for a lab to work on structural biology and I fell down in an absolutely amazing and talented team in Oeiras, Portugal. Good times, nothing to be worried about, just molecules, structures and the feeling that I was doing something interesting. I got an EMBO long-term fellowship and I felt like in heaven.
As a tribute to these people, Pedro Matias, Carlos Frazão and my mentor, Prof. Maria Armenia Carrondo... here you have one of the structures that they solved. It is a very weird and economic protein, from Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, a very curious bacterium. This is a multiheme cytochrome, that has 4 heme groups in a very short protein chain. Molecular economy. Thanks to all of you, for making me feel important and for all the knowledge I got from you. Always grateful (PDB code: 3CYR)
